(Patria) - The Delegation of the European Union to Bosnia and Herzegovina issued a statement today regarding the celebration of Sretenje - the Statehood Day of the Republic of Serbia in Banja Luka.
"The Constitution of Bosnia and Herzegovina clearly states: Bosnia and Herzegovina is a unified and sovereign state consisting of two entities - the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina and the Republika Srpska, as well as the Brčko District.
The sovereignty, territorial integrity, constitutional order, including decisions of the Constitutional Court, and the international legal personality of Bosnia and Herzegovina must be respected.
Regional cooperation and good neighbourly relations are an essential part of progress on the European path.
Actions and statements that negatively affect good neighbourly relations and deepen political divisions should be avoided.
We expect all international partners to be equally committed to the European perspective of Bosnia and Herzegovina as a unified, indivisible and sovereign country.
Following the decision of the European Council in March 2024 to open accession negotiations, we call on political actors in Bosnia and Herzegovina to refrain from actions that deepen divisions and create tensions.
Instead, we encourage them to focus entirely on achieving progress on the European path, with all the benefits that this would secure for citizens," the EU Delegation to BiH stated.
