(Patria) - Following numerous reactions after the EU delegation's visit to Bratunac and laying flowers at the Military Cemetery, the EU Delegation has also issued a statement today.
They claim that the EU Office, together with diplomats from EU member states, yesterday "paid tribute to innocent civilian victims killed in the Birač region around Bratunac between 1992 and 1995."
"We paid tribute exclusively to innocent civilian victims. We unequivocally condemn the perpetrators of all crimes. International and domestic courts have thoroughly examined the events during the war from 1992 to 1995, and indisputably established the nature of the committed crimes in court rulings, including the genocide in Srebrenica.
During the war from 1992 to 1995, a large number of innocent civilian victims were killed throughout Bosnia and Herzegovina. It is important to remember all these victims. Each of these victims has loved ones who cherish their memory and mourn them. A wreath was laid in their memory.
The cemetery in Bratunac where the wreath was laid is a local town cemetery, where innocent civilian victims from the war from 1992 to 1995 are also buried. The claims that it is a military cemetery or that only fallen soldiers are buried there are untrue.
Our sole intention in laying the wreath in Bratunac was to express empathy, respect, and understanding for the suffering of all innocent civilian victims," stated the EU Delegation.
We remind you that Emir Suljagić, whose family members were killed in Bratunac and whose killer is buried in this very cemetery along with other VRS members who committed crimes, was among the first to point out this action by the EU Delegation.
