EU Delegation: BiH Committed to Aligning Foreign Policy with EU

The European Union is monitoring whether Bosnia and Herzegovina is aligning its foreign policy with that of Europe as part of the accession process, Endi McGaffie, spokesperson for the EU Delegation in Sarajevo, told the BiH news agency Patria (NAP).

A few days ago, Brussels adopted a new set of sanctions against Russia due to the downing of a civilian aircraft by separatists in Ukraine, who are operating under Moscow's control. However, BiH has not joined these or previous sanctions, as it is opposed by member of the BiH Presidency, Nebojša Radmanović.

- As a rule, the EU always calls on third countries to adopt EU positions, especially when it comes to sanctions. This particularly applies to countries that are candidates or potential candidates for membership. Although foreign policy is, of course, the competence of BiH institutions, BiH has committed to increasing alignment with the EU in this regard, through the Stabilization and Association Agreement – says McGaffie.

This will, he adds once again, also be assessed in terms of Bosnia and Herzegovina's progress in the EU accession process, reports NAP.
