Bosnia and Herzegovina delegation calls on EU to get involved in resolving the issue of the Trgovska Gora landfill

SARAJEVO, (Patria) - The fourth meeting of the Subcommittee on Transport, Energy, Environment and Regional Development between the European Union and Bosnia and Herzegovina was held today via video conference.

Information was exchanged at the meeting on the implementation of the BiH Transport Framework Strategy and action plans, and the importance of monitoring and harmonizing legal solutions with the development of the European Union acquis was emphasized. Progress was noted in the field of road and rail transport in BiH, with the remark that there is still room for improvement, especially when it comes to road safety. The BiH delegation informed the European Commission that, although air traffic was most affected by the Covid-19 pandemic, there were no disruptions in traffic and that all safety recommendations were followed.

Representatives of the European Commission presented the priorities of the European Green Deal and the Green Agenda for the Western Balkans, and the implementation of the BiH Energy Framework Strategy was also discussed.

Members of the BiH delegation called on EU institutions to get involved in resolving the issue of the construction of a radioactive waste repository at the Trgovska Gora site in the Republic of Croatia and expressed concern because certain activities have already begun. They also pointed out the need to improve communication between institutions in BiH and Croatia, as well as to involve the wider public.

The meeting also discussed the Draft Energy and Climate Plan, the update of the Energy Community Treaty, the development of a comprehensive state strategy for environmental protection in BiH, and concrete plans and measures to address air quality issues.

The latest information in the field of civil protection was also exchanged.
