Dedović: Freedom and dignity have no price

MOSTAR, (Patria) - According to tradition, the second day of Eid al-Fitr also marked the Day of Martyrs in numerous Bosnian cities. In Mostar, the central ceremony was held at the martyr cemetery where a prayer was recited, flowers were laid, and tribute was paid to all heroes who fell in the defensive-liberation war.

Mostar Mufti Salem ef. Dedović said that the Day of Martyrs is founded, established, and preserved as a memory and remembrance. This, he said, is an important life lesson that reminds, warns, and unites the Bosniak community in matters of general value.

- During Ramadan, we gathered, connected, and united. Because there are things that surpass something that is average, consumable, and profane. Or something that is here today and gone tomorrow. Freedom has no price. Dignity and the struggle for the dignity of the Bosniak people in this city and region also have no price. In this time, that price has been paid dearly. For that dignity, investments were made, it was preserved and fought for, said Dedović, as reported by the portal vijesti.ba

He also said that in this time, the same struggle as during the war is being waged in other ways and through different expressions. Those who are the successors of those who led the physical struggle for the survival of the country should be aware of what this generation, because of which we are here today, has done, he stated.

- They should be aware of the trust and obligation not to betray the common cause. They should not do that. It would be shameful, devastating, and irresponsible towards the country, the future, and future generations. The idea of the country, dignity, national name, language, culture, and spirituality are things about which there is no dispute. The past is something that motivates. It is a warning and a reminder, that is, a signpost for those endowed with reason. It can be a great incentive, although one cannot live from it, said Mufti Dedović, as reported by the Patria agency.
