(Patria) - A hearing on the extension of custody for former OSA director Osman Mehmedagić and suspended President of the Court of BiH Ranko Debevec was held at the Court of Bosnia and Herzegovina.
Prosecutor Bojana Jolović presented new details uncovered during the expanded investigation.
The public was excluded from the first item as it relates to sexual harassment of female employees of the Court of BiH.
As Prosecutor Jolović stated, Ranko Debevec received a car from the “Kramar” car dealership while more than 700 proceedings against that company were ongoing in court. This refers to the period from 2019 to 2021. Debevec registered the mentioned vehicle under his wife's sister's name. The prosecutor stated that he took a 2014 Polo model car. The car was worth 15,000 marks.
The next item for which custody extension is sought is the acquisition of property benefit from Zdravko Mamić, whom he met at the “Dado” tavern near Grude. Recall that Mamić gave a statement to SIPA.
He told SIPA investigators that he gave the then President of the Court of BiH a watch worth 15,000 euros and said it was a symbolic gift. At the time, Mamić was in the process of deciding on extradition to the Croatian judiciary. Businessman Ljiljanko Palac was present.
Prosecutor Jolović stated that the President of the Court of BiH also met with Đorđe Ždrale and his lawyer. Ždrale served a prison sentence for murder.
Details were revealed that Debevec and court employee Milislav Pijuk posed as OSA employees to seize video surveillance recordings from a catering facility.
The defenses of Debevec and Mehmedagić, lawyers Mirna Avdibegović and Nermin Mulalić, requested that the proposal be rejected, that prohibitive measures possibly be imposed, and Prosecutor Bojana Jolović opposed this.
Debevec's defense also pointed out that it was a used Polo vehicle paid for in cash, and that Debevec has nothing to do with how the “Kramar” car dealership recorded the cash payment. He removed the advertisement from the vehicle because he was not paid to have it on the car.
Incidentally, defense attorney Avdibegović stated that Ranko Debevec never received that famous watch from Zdravko Mamić, that Mamić had no need for such a thing because upon arriving in BiH he immediately knew he would not be extradited to Croatia, and that the Prosecutor's Office itself, in its proposal for Mamić, concluded that there were no elements for extradition to Croatia.
