Daviddi opens Maglaj school renovated with EU funds

Deputy Head of the European Union Delegation to Bosnia and Herzegovina, Dr. Renzo Daviddi, today officially opened the Public Institution "Mixed Secondary School Centre Maglaj" and the Public Institution "Edhem Mulabdić" Gymnasium in Maglaj, renovated within the framework of the EU Programme for Flood Recovery financed by the European Union, reports the BH News Agency Patria.  

The school suffered severe damage during the May 2014 floods. Renovation and rehabilitation works, thanks to European Union funds, include new electrical installations, installation of a new heating system and sanitary facilities, laying of new floors, replacement of carpentry, renovation of walls and installation of thermal insulation facade, and roof renovation. The total value of the European Union's investment for the school's renovation amounts to 339,733.78 euros (664,461.51 KM), according to the EU Delegation.

"I am very pleased to visit Maglaj to see firsthand how the European Union's assistance is concretely bringing about changes in the lives of communities affected by the floods in May this year. The renovation of these two schools is a good example of the results we strive to deliver to people in our post-flood recovery efforts. The European Union is financing numerous projects in the Municipality of Maglaj to repair the damage caused by the floods, with expected total investments of approximately 2.8 million EUR. This money, which comes directly from the citizens of the European Union, is a strong sign of solidarity and our commitment to helping the people of Maglaj return to normal life as soon as possible," stated Dr. Daviddi.

"We want to express our special gratitude to the EU representatives for making us happy and for providing a working and learning environment in a beautifully renovated school for a thousand students," said the director of the Public Institution "Edhem Mulabdić" Gymnasium, Amela Hidić.

"The implemented European Commission project for our school has currently made over 3,000 people happy, including about 1,000 students, about 2,000 parents, and about 100 employees, and this number will increase year by year in the future. Investing in upbringing and education means investing in the future of the country; the member states of the European Union realized this long ago. I hope that we in Bosnia and Herzegovina will also realize this soon and stop viewing education as a consumption category," said the director of the Public Institution Mixed Secondary School Centre Maglaj, Ermin Tanković.
