Daviddi: Denial of the Srebrenica genocide is immoral and unacceptable

The Chargé d'Affaires of the European Union Delegation to Bosnia and Herzegovina, Renzo Daviddi, met today with the President of the Association of Mothers of the Srebrenica and Žepa Enclaves, Munira Subašić, and the President of the Association of Victims and Witnesses of Genocide, Murat Tahirović, who informed him about their activities regarding advocacy for the adoption of a possible state law banning the denial of genocide, reports the Bosnian news agency Patria.

During the meeting, Daviddi emphasized that any denial or trivialization of genocide is immoral and unacceptable. He also highlighted the key role of the associations in raising awareness and building a broader basis for consensus among citizens and members of Parliament, which increases the possibility for the adoption of legislative initiatives in the Parliament of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

- War victims and their families carry a heavy burden. It takes time for wounds to heal, and since nothing can bring back their loved ones, some wounds will never heal. These are sensitive issues and it is unacceptable to deny genocide, such as the Srebrenica genocide, which has been confirmed by rulings of competent courts. This fundamentally undermines the reconciliation process in Bosnia and Herzegovina and the Western Balkans region” - said Daviddi.

Daviddi recalled that reconciliation and cooperation are key prerequisites for the progress of countries in the region on their European path and emphasized the continued support of the European Union for Bosnia and Herzegovina in achieving its EU membership perspective.
