(Patria) - The Court of Appeals in Belgrade has lifted the detention of Darko Šarić and ordered him to house arrest with electronic monitoring, as well as three other defendants from his group.
Šarić has spent almost eight years in detention, having surrendered to judicial authorities in March 2014 after years on the run.
He was sentenced in the first instance to 15 years in prison as the organizer of a criminal group for smuggling cocaine from Latin America to Western Europe during 2008 and 2009, and his appeal is currently pending before the Court of Appeals.
