(Patria) - The event "Days of Sarajevo Canton 2026" will be held from May 2nd to 9th, offering a series of free cultural, memorial, and entertainment activities at various locations throughout the Canton.
Under the patronage of the Government of Sarajevo Canton and organized by the Public Institution "Bosnian Cultural Center KS", the program includes concerts by regional stars, children's plays, vintage car exhibitions, and numerous educational activities, with free admission to all events.
Announcing this event at today's press conference, the Prime Minister of Sarajevo Canton, Nihad Uk, emphasized the deep symbolism of the period in which the event is held, highlighting that these dates connect the fight against fascism from 1942 and 1992.
"We traditionally begin the Days of Sarajevo Canton on May 2nd, remembering all those who gave their lives for the defense of Sarajevo and Bosnia and Herzegovina. By laying flowers at the Kovači cemetery at 10:00 AM, and then at the Lav and Stadion cemeteries, the memorial in Novi Grad, and the Alley of Veterans at Vlakovo, we pay tribute to our heroes. I particularly emphasize May 5th, which the KS Government declared a Day of Mourning in memory of the murdered children of besieged Sarajevo. The very next day, May 6th at noon, we plan a major event at the Memorial to Murdered Children where over 5,000 children will celebrate life. The commemoration of May 9th, Victory Day over Fascism and the Day of the Golden Lilies, after paying tribute at Kovači and the Eternal Flame, will conclude with the central program at the Vraca Memorial Park at 10:30 AM, and the Family Day in Pionirska Dolina from 11 AM to 2 PM," stated Prime Minister Uk.
He also presented details of the music program, with information that free tickets for concerts in the BKC hall can be picked up at the box office starting Monday, May 4th, from 10:00 AM.
"We have prepared top-notch musical events, starting on May 4th at 8 PM with a performance by AKC 'Seljo', continuing with a concert by the band Konvoj on May 6th, and a performance by Nermin Puškar and Almas on May 7th," said Prime Minister Uk.
The culmination of the program is the gala concert 'Songs of Freedom' at the BKC, on May 8th, at 8 PM, which will gather some of the best musical names from Bosnia and Herzegovina and the region, as discussed at today's conference by director Nedžad Begović.
"The concert is organized on the occasion of May 9th, Victory Day over Fascism, and the following artists will perform on the stage of the Grand Hall: Dado Topić, Željko Bebek, Zoran Predin, Goran Karan, Muhamed Fazlagić – Fazla, Ismet Kurtović, Fikret Kurtović, Sandra Bagarić, Darko Domitrović, Nermin Puškar, Mustafa Čizmić-Čizma, Branko Likić, Aida Mušanović – Arsić, the choir of the Opera of the National Theatre Sarajevo, and the Choir of the Music School Zenica. The program host will be Dževdet Tuzlić, and the vocal interpreters will be accompanied by the band Nastavnik Kosta i zdravo starenje. In addition to the artists' greatest hits, songs conveying messages of freedom will be performed at the concert," explained Begović.
The rest of the program includes, among other things, the children's play “Who Needs a Theater?” in the BKC KS gallery, on May 7th at 12:00 PM, the unveiling of the bust of Safvet-beg Bašagić on May 8th at 11 AM in Jelena Vitas Park, and an international exhibition of vintage vehicles and the announcement of the best video works from the "Spring in Sarajevo" competition on Saturday evening.
As part of the event, numerous activities are planned in healthcare institutions, including measuring blood sugar, blood pressure, body weight and height, consultations, lectures, workshops, and educational sessions...
