European Heritage Days: Lecture and discussion on memorial art in BiH held in Tuzla

SARAJEVO, (Patria) - The second event within the "European Heritage Days in BiH" manifestation was held today at JU BKC TK, organized by this institution in partnership with JU Museum of Eastern Bosnia Tuzla and JP RTV TK.

The expert lecture and panel discussion on the topic "Let's Protect Heritage - Let's Promote Creativity" was attended by employees of cultural institutions from the Tuzla Canton, the relevant ministry, the University of Tuzla, and other institutions.

The introductory speaker for the discussion was Aida Bičakčić, expert advisor for art history at the Commission for the Preservation of National Monuments of Bosnia and Herzegovina, with an expert lecture titled "Memorial Art in Bosnia and Herzegovina.".

"The lecture is a chronology of memorial expressions in space that reflect the memory of people and events that people try to preserve from oblivion. This segment of our heritage is very important and represents a document about events. Thus, through stećci, we research medieval Bosnia today, through crosses and tombstones, we learn about people and customs from their period, just as we learn through the monuments of the National Liberation War, which also represent extraordinary works of art. I hope that this event will contribute to highlighting the importance of this segment of our cultural heritage, primarily by building a sense of respect for both the authors and those to whom this heritage is dedicated," Aida Bičakčić told us, who thanked the cultural institutions in the Tuzla Canton in the introductory part of her lecture for organizing a series of events to mark European Heritage Days.

The panel discussion was moderated by Benjamin Bajrektarević, expert associate for art collections and cultural heritage at JU BKC TK, and the panelists in an interesting and substantive discussion were Hari Ejubović, head of gallery and stage affairs at JU BKC TK, Vesna Isabegović, museum advisor at JU Museum of Eastern Bosnia Tuzla, and Jasna Hadžiselimović, professor of Bosnian, Croatian, and Serbian languages and literature and Master of Humanities in the field of theatre studies.

Other participants in today's event also took an active part.

Welcome remarks on behalf of the organizers and hosts were given by Mirela Ibrahimović Mehanović, acting director of JU BKC TK, on behalf of the co-organizers Vesna Isabegović from the Museum of Eastern Bosnia Tuzla, and on behalf of the sponsors Selma Bešić Čerkezović, expert advisor for culture and information at the Ministry of Culture, Sport and Youth of Tuzla Canton.

Two partners in the project also contributed to the realization of this event: JP RTV TK, which created documentary video content for the panel discussion showcasing memorial monuments in the Tuzla Canton, and JU Museum of Eastern Bosnia Tuzla.
