Operational Staff for Migration Issues to Meet Today

SARAJEVO, (Patria) - The Operational Staff for Migration Issues in BiH will hold a meeting in Sarajevo today to discuss activities and measures to combat illegal migration, and the accommodation of migrants currently in BiH.

After the meeting, the Minister of Security of BiH, Dragan Mektić, will address the journalists, as announced by the Ministry of Security of BiH.

Yesterday, during a debate in the House of Representatives of the Parliamentary Assembly of BiH, Mektić warned that BiH does not have the capacity for an adequate response to the increased influx of migrants, and that it lacks funds to secure a larger number of police officers to protect the border.

According to his estimates, there are currently about 2,500 migrants in BiH.

- This year, about 6,500 migrants have entered BiH, which means that about 4,000 have left the country - Mektić explained.

He emphasized that out of the 2,500 border police officers foreseen by the staffing plan, 500 are missing, and that no agency has a staffing level above 65 percent.
