House of Representatives convenes extraordinary session today, with two police activity laws on the agenda

(Patria) - An extraordinary session of the House of Representatives of the Parliament of the Federation of BiH will be held today in Sarajevo, starting at 11 a.m.

The proposed agenda includes a total of four items:

- Proposal for a law amending the Law on Police Officers of the Federation of BiH (urgent procedure);

- Proposal for a law amending the Law on Internal Affairs of the Federation of BiH (urgent procedure);

- Strategy for Agriculture and Rural Development of the Federation of BiH 2021-2027 (urgent procedure); and

- Harmonization of the Proposal for a law amending and supplementing the Law on Waste Management.



The proposed amendments to the law on police officers of the FBiH stipulate the harmonization of the current law with certain provisions of the Law on Pension and Disability Insurance.

The goal is for police officers whose employment ends upon retirement to be able to exercise their rights from pension and disability insurance in accordance with the current regulations governing this matter.

Regarding the amendments to the Law on Internal Affairs of the FBiH, the Federal Government, as the proposer, stated that currently, due to the specifics of promoting police officers to higher ranks - which is done only for vacant positions, as well as due to the specific promotion procedure, it results in no police officer from the FUP with the rank of Chief Inspector meeting the conditions to apply for the position of FUP Director or Deputy Director, as they will meet the conditions for retirement during their term of office.

"We also point out that a similar or identical situation exists in most cantonal ministries of internal affairs with police officers who meet the rank requirements, i.e., who can be candidates for the Director or Deputy Director of the Federal Police Administration.

Given the aforementioned, that the Federal Police Administration is currently not headed by a Director or Deputy Director, and that after the public competition is announced, it will be difficult to secure a police officer according to the conditions stipulated in the Law on Internal Affairs of the FBiH, it is necessary to correct the provision," stated the FBiH Government.
