Kazani memorial unveiled today

(Patria) - The Kazani memorial, dedicated to Sarajevo citizens killed during 1992 and 1993 at the Kazani site, will be unveiled today.

Sarajevo Mayor Benjamina Karić will unveil the memorial at 12 PM, lay flowers, and pay tribute to the victims of Kazani.

"We will forever remember our murdered fellow citizens with sadness and respect," reads the inscription on the memorial with the names of 17 murdered fellow citizens.

The Kazani memorial was erected by the City of Sarajevo on the initiative of Mayor Karić, who expressed her readiness to finally resolve this issue at the beginning of her term.

"The victims at Kazani, like all victims of the siege of the City of Sarajevo, deserve respect and a dignified memorial," stated the Sarajevo City Administration.

The Sarajevo City Council adopted the decision to mark November 9 as the Day of Remembrance for citizens of Serbian nationality who perished at Kazani. This year it was not marked due to adverse weather conditions.
