Decision on drastic tuition fee increase at UNSA today

The decision of the Senate of the University of Sarajevo from June 25, 2014, on the increase of tuition fees and other costs at faculties has caused numerous reactions and condemnations from both students and members of the academic community, writes the BiH news agency Patria (NAP).

The session of the Management Board of the University of Sarajevo is scheduled for today at 3 PM, where this decision will be considered. One of the members, Prof. Dr. Velija Katica, told Patria that he will not support this decision of the Senate.

- Young people have had enough of everything anyway. What do we need, to make it even harder for them? There is no question of me voting for this. A firm no to this decision – said Katica.

The Management Board of UNSA consists of Dr. Mevludin Mekić, president, and members Dobrila Govedarica Nevjestić, Prof. Dr. Mehmed Jahić, Prof. Dr. Velija Katica, Sifet Kukuruz, dipl.iur., mr. Azemina Njuhović, Prof. Dr. Munir Talović, Osman Topčagić, Sandra Začinović, Prof. Dr. Almedina Zuko, Amar Nurković, student.

Otherwise, for the Senate's decision to be accepted, a simple majority is required, which in this case is six votes.

If this decision receives the approval of the Management Board of the University, the proposal to increase study costs will go to the KS Government for voting, writes Patria.
