Commemoration for Alija Behmen today

SARAJevo, (Patria) - A commemoration for Alija Behmen will be held today at 1 PM in the hall of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina Railways station building in Sarajevo.

The former Prime Minister of the Federation of BiH, Mayor of Sarajevo, and member of the Social Democratic Party of BiH, Alija Behmen, passed away on Wednesday at the age of 78.

He was born on December 25, 1940, in Split. He graduated, obtained his master's degree, and his doctorate from the Faculty of Economics in Sarajevo. In the 1998 general elections, as a candidate of the SDP BiH, he was elected as a representative in the Assembly of Sarajevo Canton and Deputy Speaker of the House of Peoples of the Parliament of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina. From 2001 to 2003, he served as the Prime Minister of the Federation of BiH.

In the 2006 general elections in BiH, he was elected as a representative in the House of Representatives of the Parliament of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina. In January 2009, his mandate as a representative ended when he was elected to the position of Mayor of Sarajevo. He served as the Mayor of the City of Sarajevo until 2013.
