(Patria) - An urgent session of the House of Representatives of the Parliamentary Assembly of Bosnia and Herzegovina has been scheduled for today with one item on the agenda - the Bill on Amendments to the Election Law of Bosnia and Herzegovina.
The proposers of the law are MPs from the Party of Democratic Action - Šerif Špago, Šemsudin Dedić, Edin Ramić, Safet Kešo, Denijal Tulumović, Amor Mašović, Nermin Mandra, and Midhat Čaušević, with a request for urgent procedure.
The Bill envisages the integration of the election process and the introduction of new technologies to prevent potential election fraud - the introduction of electronic voter identification by fingerprint and optical reading of ballots. Also, it is envisaged that, in order to prevent abuse of polling station committees, polling station committees be selected by the Central Election Commission of BiH through a public call, and that parties can have a maximum of one member.
Today's session is an opportunity for the legislator to adopt amendments to the election law and fulfill the request of the High Representative Christian Schmidt, who called on parliamentarians to adopt amendments by the end of the year, or he would impose them. SNSD opposes this proposal.
- If domestic bodies do not find a solution, now, not next month, next year, I would then consider saying, in the next two or three weeks, we cannot depend on promises, so this week, if it is not done, everyone knows that there is one person in the city who has the jurisdiction and authority to make such a decision. This is not interference in the work of Parliament, but strengthening democracy - said the High Representative at a press conference.
