(Patria) - The Government of Sarajevo Canton has declared February 14 a Day of Mourning due to the tram accident in which a young man died and four people were injured.
The Cantonal Government announced that after the investigation is completed, it will insist on full accountability of those responsible and on sanctions, and that until the investigation is concluded, no one is authorized to provide any information about this case.
Incidentally, the Government of Sarajevo Canton made the decision on the Day of Mourning only after serious public pressure, as ministers were divided over this decision.
In this accident, Erdoan Morankić from Brčko, a student at the Academy of Fine Arts in Sarajevo, tragically died when the tram suddenly jumped off the tracks while he was at the tram stop.
Four other people were injured, including a seventeen-year-old girl whose leg was amputated due to the injuries sustained.
The tram driver, Adnan Kasapović, has been handed over to the jurisdiction of the Sarajevo Canton Prosecutor's Office.
