Martyrs' Day in Novi Grad Municipality: We must never forget those who gave their lives for the defense of our homeland

(Patria) - Martyrs' and Fallen Soldiers' Day in the municipality of Novi Grad Sarajevo was marked by visiting cemeteries and paying tribute to the bravest sons and daughters of our homeland, those who laid down their lives for a free and independent BiH.

Representatives of the Municipality and Municipal Council of Novi Grad Sarajevo, with Mayor Semir Efendić and Chairman Jasmin Šošić, families of martyrs, relatives, comrades, representatives of veterans' associations, and citizens, visited cemeteries in the Novi Grad municipality.



The central event was held at the Martyrs' Cemetery in Buča Potok. A Ja`sin sharif was recited for the fallen martyrs and soldiers at all cemeteries, while a Hatma prayer was recited at the Gazi Husrev-beg Mosque.

Tahir Mašić, acting assistant to the mayor for veterans' affairs, labor, social affairs, and health, emphasized on this occasion that the Municipality of Novi Grad will never forget those who gave their lives for the defense of the homeland.

- The Municipality of Novi Grad Sarajevo cherishes the memory of the bravest sons and daughters of our homeland, and it will continue to do so in the years to come. We must never forget those who gave their lives for the defense of BiH, thanks to whom we live in peace today.

This year, we have increased the funds in the municipal budget allocated to veterans' associations and strive, as much as we can, to contribute to improving their status - said Mašić.



The Chairman of the Municipal Council of Novi Grad Sarajevo, Jasmin Šošić, emphasized that the commemoration of Martyrs' Day is an opportunity to express gratitude and respect to those who gave their lives for the freedom and future of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

- Today, on the second day of Eid al-Fitr, we have gathered to pay tribute to the best sons of our homeland, the martyrs. Their sacrifice must not be forgotten, and their loved ones must know that we will always be with them and cherish the memory of their loved ones - said Šošić.

A reception and Eid gathering was organized for the families of martyrs and fallen soldiers at the Doma oslobodilaca restaurant on Žuč, and Eid gifts were presented to them.

The attendees were addressed by the president of the Management Board of the Organization of Families of Martyrs and Fallen Soldiers of the Municipality of Novi Grad, Aida Cincović, and the Mayor of the Municipality, Semir Efendić, who welcomed them and congratulated them on Eid al-Fitr.



In his address, Efendić emphasized the importance of remembering martyrs and fallen soldiers, and stressed that the Municipality of Novi Grad continuously carries out activities to preserve the memory of their sacrifice and contribution to the defense of the homeland from the aggressor.

- The Association of Families of Martyrs and Fallen Soldiers proposed, and we gladly accepted, to organize this Eid reception. We organized it here in this beautiful place at the Doma oslobodilaca on Žuč hill, to see each other and socialize a bit - said Mayor Efendić.

Among those present was Hasena Mangafić, who lost three close family members during the aggression against BiH. On this occasion, she emphasized the importance of preserving the memory of the martyrs and their struggle for the freedom of our homeland.

- We should not remember our martyrs only on Martyrs' Day; we should remember them every day. Besides my husband who is a martyr, my father and brother are also martyrs. It is painful, but we must remember, because if it weren't for them, we wouldn't be here.



They left us a legacy to always remember them, visit their graves, and continue to care for their descendants. We must preserve this memory, tell our grandchildren what happened to us, and not allow it to happen again - stated Hasena.

The commemoration of Martyrs' Day preserves the memory of those who made the ultimate sacrifice for the freedom and future of our one and only beloved homeland, Bosnia and Herzegovina.
