(Patria) - On the occasion of Sarajevo Canton Day, the Sarajevo Memorial Center and the Government of Sarajevo Canton are organizing an “Open Day at the Tunnel D-B Memorial Complex” on Friday, May 8, 2026.
On this occasion, entry to the “Tunnel of Hope” will be free for all citizens of Bosnia and Herzegovina.
The Tunnel of Hope represents one of the most significant sites in the recent history of Bosnia and Herzegovina. During the siege of Sarajevo, it was the only link between the surrounded city and the rest of the free territory, enabling the delivery of food, medicine, humanitarian aid, and other essential supplies for survival. Numerous citizens, the wounded, members of the Army of the Republic of Bosnia and Herzegovina, as well as communication and energy resources passed through the tunnel, thus playing a crucial role in the survival of Sarajevo and its inhabitants.
Today, the Tunnel of Hope represents a symbol of resistance, endurance, and the fight for freedom, and a lasting reminder of the importance of preserving the culture of remembrance.
We invite all citizens to visit the Tunnel of Hope and, through an authentic experience, learn about one of the most important sites in the contemporary history of Bosnia and Herzegovina.
The working hours of the Memorial Complex are from 09:00 to 16:30.
Citizens of Bosnia and Herzegovina gain free entry by voluntarily showing a valid identification document.
