Statehood Day of BiH: Baščaršija adorned today with songs, joy, and smiles on citizens' faces

(Patria) - With songs, smiles, and rich cultural heritage preserved and presented by members of KUD Baščaršija, the Old Town Municipality of Sarajevo today celebrated the Statehood Day of Bosnia and Herzegovina with its citizens. A cultural and entertainment program in front of the Cathedral, where the Mayor, Mr. Ibrahim Hadžibajrić, congratulated the citizens on Statehood Day, was followed by a parade of KUD members through Ferhadija and Sarače streets to Sebilj, joined by the Mayor, his associates, municipal councilors, and citizens. The parade, accompanied by traditional sevdalinka songs performed by members of KUD Baščaršija, and met with applause and approval from numerous citizens, reached Sebilj where the program continued, and the Old Town Municipality treated all attendees to coffee and tea.

Addressing the citizens gathered in front of the Cathedral, Mayor Hadžibajrić emphasized the importance of preserving our tradition and culture, as well as the significance of today's date for all citizens of Bosnia and Herzegovina, and extended his congratulations to those present.

“We decided on this kind of celebration today because it is necessary to bring some optimism and joy to the Statehood Day of Bosnia and Herzegovina. We must hold our heads high, even in difficult times, and be proud of our homeland, Bosnia and Herzegovina. Therefore, I call on you today for more optimism and joy, and our cultural and artistic society Baščaršija will surely strive to make this holiday more beautiful for you,” said the Mayor and added:

“We must never forget all our martyrs and fallen soldiers who invested their lives in the foundations of this country so that we can celebrate Statehood Day in such a beautiful and solemn manner today.”

Members of KUD Baščaršija treated citizens to traditional dances and songs: Muslim dances from Old Sarajevo – Sarajevo, a beautiful place, Visočanka, Stan Neretvo, Krajina, From the other side of Pliva...

Samir Mirvić, one of the members of this society, stated that it is an honor for them to participate in the celebration of BiH Statehood Day.

“I have been a member of KUD Baščaršija for 15 years, and I must truly emphasize that today it is a great honor and pleasure for me to walk the streets of my city in traditional costume and see the happiness and smiles on the faces of the people who see us and who followed us in the parade. I thank the Old Town Municipality for celebrating our holidays in this way and including us in such programs, to which we always gladly respond. Through this, I would like to invite all young people to preserve our culture and heritage,” said Mirvić.

The special guest of the Old Town Municipality at today's parade was a delegation from the Municipality of Karsiyaka from Izmir, led by Mayor Dr. Cemil Tugay.
