Bosniak Day ceremonially marked in Sarajevo City Hall

SARAJevo, (Patria) - A ceremonial marking of Bosniak Day was held on Saturday evening in Sarajevo City Hall, and the event was organized by the Bosniak Cultural Community "Preporod".

The patrons of the event, which marks the 26th anniversary of the First Bosniak Congress and the historical return of the name Bosniak, were BiH Presidency member Šefik Džaferović and Sarajevo Mayor Abdulah Skaka, and the host of the gathering was the president of "Preporod", Prof. Dr. Sanjin Kodrić.

As stated by the president of BZK "Preporod", Sanjin Kodrić, Bosniak Day is linked to the First Bosniak Congress, a pan-Bosniak gathering held in besieged Sarajevo on September 27 and 28, 1993, when, among other important decisions, the pan-Bosniak decision was made by which Bosniaks "revitalized their real, historical national name Bosniak".

BiH Presidency member Šefik Džaferović stated that the Bosniak Congress is undoubtedly one of the most significant events for Bosniaks in their history, because by the decision of the congress delegates, they returned their name and the Bosnian language, also noting that Bosniaks "of course existed before the Bosniak Congress".

"We did not emerge 26 years ago. We have been here for as long as the state of BiH has existed. We are the ones who have fought for this country and its people for centuries," said Džaferović.
