Damir Kavgić: Samira was calling for her mom when I picked her up

Damir Kavgić and his son are heroes who found the missing girl, 5-year-old Samira Alić from Rašljani, reports the Patria News Agency.

- After I came home from work, I decided to go look for the girl with my son. I couldn't wait any longer. I got ready and headed towards one of the highest peaks of Majevica. I felt I might find the girl in that area. I felt some force and I believe this is all God's will.

When I reached a part of the forest where I was sure no one goes, I heard something like a cry, but not loud enough for me to immediately determine where it was coming from.

Still, I headed in one direction, hoping the girl was there. I was right. I saw her and shouted 'she's alive', and she looked at me with her big eyes. I felt great joy and thanked God that I found her alive. The question is whether adults would have managed in the forest alone for seven days, 15 kilometers from their home without anything, Damir recalls.

Damir says the girl had many open wounds and cuts, she was exhausted, and it was noticeable that she was dehydrated. She no longer had the strength to resist the flies that attacked her. She was without clothes, so it's a miracle how she survived.

- After I picked her up, she was calling for her mom. I hurried to climb a big hill while my son looked for a signal so I could call the police and ambulance. As soon as I found a signal, I called them, and they arrived very quickly. After I handed the girl over to a police officer, I lost consciousness. It is not true that it happened immediately after I saw her, as some portals reported. I first got her to safety, and only then, from great exhaustion and excitement, did I lose consciousness, says Damir.

He emphasizes that he is overjoyed that he was able to find the girl and that he contributed to this action. A large number of people were involved in this action, but no one decided to check the mentioned location.

- People consider me a hero, and I think it was my duty. I will soon visit her family and the residents of Rašljani, and I also want to visit the girl in the hospital. My daughter reminds me a lot of her, so there is a connection on that side too. Also, it is important to say that this girl did not have psychological problems as some portals claimed. Her brother is ill, but she did not have such an illness before. I hope she recovers quickly, says Damir, writes Bosanskiportal.
