Dalibor Jauković Threw a Bomb at the US Embassy in Montenegro

MONTENEGRO, (Patria) - Montenegrin police suspect that Dalibor Jauković (43) is the man who last night threw a bomb into the yard of the US Embassy, and then died in a second explosion, Vijesti.me reports. Jauković lived in Podgorica, and was born in Kraljevo.

His Facebook profile shows that he was awarded a medal for merits in the areas of defense and security of the Federal Republic of Yugoslavia in 1999. Jauković was awarded for "exceptional dedication in performing duties and executing tasks in the defense and security of the homeland".

The explosion, which police suspect Jauković was responsible for, occurred around midnight.

- Half an hour after midnight, in front of the US Embassy building, one person committed suicide using an explosive device. Immediately before the suicide, the person threw an explosive device into the US Embassy compound from the intersection near the Sports Center. It is most likely a hand grenade with a spoon. An investigation and identification are underway. The prosecutor is at the scene and is leading the investigation - the Government of Montenegro wrote on Twitter.

State Department Under Secretary Steve Goldstein said that witnesses saw a man throwing an object over the embassy wall, the New York Times reports. It is also stated that no one in the US Embassy was injured. Goldstein added that embassy security officials searched the area and no other explosive devices were found, and that the building was not damaged in the attack.

He did not know what the motive for the attack was, nor whether it was a deliberate suicide attack.

The embassy announced on its website that there is an active security situation and US citizens were advised to avoid the US Embassy until further notice.
