Has Džuvo's Successor Been Found After 10 Years: Osmica New Director of OSA?

Osman Mehmedagić Osmica will be the new director of the Intelligence-Security Agency of BiH, reports the Patria News Agency. Mehmedagić will thus, as reported by N1, succeed Almir Džuvo in this position, who held this function for two terms.

Osman Mehmedagić, former escort of Alija Izetbegović, currently heads the Department for Covert Surveillance and Documentation within OSA.

According to the Law on OSA, the director is appointed and dismissed by the Council of Ministers of BiH, upon the proposal of the Chairperson, in consultation with the members of the Presidency of BiH and the Executive Board and the Security-Intelligence Committee.

The Joint Commission for Oversight of OSA's Work will begin the procedure for appointing a new director of one of the key agencies in BiH's security sector on Monday.

The appointment of the General Director is based on demonstrated professionalism and experience gained in intelligence-security work, and law enforcement, not on political affiliation.

The required experience cannot be exclusively gained in positions achieved through political appointments.

OSA was founded in 2004 when influential Western countries assessed that the time had come to disband the then entity intelligence agencies, as well as entity armies.

Almir Džuvo has held this position from then until today.

What the CIA Director Wrote to Ivanić in April

As a reminder, in April this year, a letter signed by CIA Director John Brennan arrived at the office of the then Chairperson of the Presidency of BiH, Mladen Ivanić.

The American Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) is directly interested in who will be the new director of the Intelligence-Security Agency of Bosnia and Herzegovina (OSA), and this letter from Washington formally warned the authorities in Sarajevo about it.

- It is in the interest of the USA to ensure that OSA continues to be a close partner and an effective, multi-ethnic institution that will work in the interest of the security of all citizens of BiH, Brennan's letter to Ivanić states.

In recent months, Mehmedagić has intensified his social gatherings with high-ranking SDA officials. He also spent the month of Ramadan at iftars with Asim Sarajlić, as can be seen from the photograph that Patria is publishing.
