Will any candidate repeat the result for the BiH Presidency from 1996?

The first post-war elections in Bosnia and Herzegovina were held on September 14, 1996, with 24 parties participating, and the process was monitored by the OSCE. In just over a month, in the General Elections, voters will be able to vote for 65 political parties, 24 coalitions, and 24 independent candidates, writes the BiH news agency Patria.

There were 16 candidates in the first elections for the BiH Presidency, and 17 this year.

For the Bosniak member of the BiH Presidency in 1996, the president of the Party of Democratic Action, Alija Izetbegović, won with 730,592 votes. There were a total of eight candidates, and the runner-up was Haris Silajdžić with 124,396 votes. This year, there are ten candidates in the race, six party candidates and four independent ones.

For the Croat member of the BiH Presidency, Krešimir Zubak from the HDZ won, securing 337,065 votes. Both then and this year, voters had a choice of four names.

For the Serb member of the Presidency, Momčilo Krajišnik from the SDS won with 690,646 votes. There were four candidates for that position, while this year there are three, one of whom is a woman.

Interestingly, since those elections, no one has ever won even close to the number of votes for the Bosniak and Serb members of the BiH Presidency again. The situation is somewhat different for the Croat member, as Željko Komšić, the current member of the BiH Presidency, won 337,065 votes in the last elections in 2010, which is a record, writes Patria.
