(Patria) - The Citizens' Association Guardians of Bosnia, with great pride and deep respect, addressed the public on the occasion of the celebration of Bosnia and Herzegovina's Independence Day.

"This day, celebrated on March 1st, symbolizes the moment when, in the referendum held on February 29th and March 1st, 1992, we renewed the centuries-old independence and statehood of our country. The referendum question presented us with a choice between a state of citizens and the concept of an ethnically divided state, represented by the 'Lebanonization' question. By voting 'YES' for a sovereign and independent Bosnia and Herzegovina, citizens chose the path of a civic, multi-ethnic state, opposing the idea of division which, unfortunately, was partially realized by the Dayton Peace Agreement.

Our fight for independence was not just a political act; it was a struggle between good and evil, truth and falsehood, civilization and barbarism. In this struggle, which has lasted for centuries, Bosnia and Herzegovina has always been a bastion of resistance against those who would wish to see it divided or erased.

Tens of thousands of our compatriots laid down their lives in the aggression against our independence, proving their immeasurable courage and love for their homeland. We owe them immense gratitude, as well as their parents who raised heroes.

Today, we face new challenges. Enemies of Bosnia and Herzegovina, both within the country and beyond its borders, are using political means and hybrid warfare in attempts to undermine our progress towards a normal, functional, and civic state.

Political structures that organized paramilitary formations and carried out aggression claimed that the Serbian people were outvoted in the referendum. However, the referendum results in predominantly Serb-majority places show that a significant portion of the Serbian people voted for a sovereign state of Bosnia and Herzegovina for all its citizens, refuting claims of a unilateral vote.

The fight for a Bosnia and Herzegovina as desired by those who voted 'YES' in the referendum is at a crucial stage today. The achievements that prove our country's statehood, from the era of Ban Kulin, King Tvrtko, through ZAVNOBiH to the referendum, are seriously attacked by lies, propaganda, and policies that still pursue the goals of the nineties – the division of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

To preserve the independence of Bosnia and Herzegovina within its borders and in the order determined by the citizens' decision in the 1992 referendum, pro-Bosnian policies must create a vision of a sovereign, independent, civic, and multicultural state. This vision must be an answer to the referendum question and represent a system that protects the rights of all citizens, promotes equality, and ensures prosperity for all. The lack of vision has led to a situation where internal and external factors have largely prevented the creation of a system for the smooth functioning of the state.

The Guardians of Bosnia Association stands firm in the defense of our homeland, determined in the fight against all forms of manipulation and betrayal. Our commitment is relentless, and our will is ironclad. In the spirit of patriotism and mutual respect, together we can overcome all challenges.

May this day be a reminder of our indestructible will for freedom, unity, and justice, and an inspiration for the continuation of the fight for a better future for our country.
