Curine njive most critical due to dynamic geological changes, requires intensive monitoring

(Patria) - Employees of the Civil Protection Service of the Municipality of Stari Grad Sarajevo, during a field visit on Friday at the Curine njive site (Municipality of Istočni Stari Grad and Municipality of Stari Grad Sarajevo - Bostarići), observed serious geological changes, including the formation of cracks due to soil movement, which are continuously expanding and deepening, according to the regular report of the Federal Administration of Civil Protection.

Also observed was the presence of groundwater, which further destabilizes the soil, creating flooded areas and causing erosion towards residential buildings in Ablakovina Street. The site is considered the most critical due to dynamic geological changes, requiring intensive monitoring.

At the Knjeginjac site (Municipality of Istočni Stari Grad), no new disposal of construction material was recorded, but subsidence of the existing landfill material was observed with initial signs of erosion.

The Municipality of Istočni Stari Grad has completed the construction of an access road to the "Curine njive" site, and work is currently underway on drainage channels for surface water runoff and terrain stabilization.

At the Bistrički potok site (Municipality of Stari Grad Sarajevo – Boguševac and Municipality of Istočni Stari Grad), the stream bed is still partially filled with earth and stone material and fallen trees. No new degradation was recorded, nor have measures been taken by the Municipality of Istočni Stari Grad to remove existing obstacles.

The Civil Protection Service regularly visits the settlements of Bostarići, Ablakovina, and Ablakovina čikma. Risk assessments are underway, and measures are being taken for the possible accommodation of the population in safer facilities to be provided through the Municipality of Stari Grad Sarajevo.


The Municipal Civil Protection Headquarters of Stari Grad organized 24-hour terrain observation in areas threatened by landslides, at the sites of Curine njive, Knjeginjac, and Bistrički potok, with the aim of ensuring the implementation of timely protection measures for the population (timely warning and evacuation, if the situation requires it) and infrastructure.
