Black Lake near Bosanska Krupa: 91 explosive devices and 615 rounds of ammunition found and destroyed

Members of the special diving activities team of the National Police of the Czech Republic, with members of the Federal Civil Protection Administration (FUCZ), as part of the continuation of cooperation, from August 29 to September 11, worked on finding and removing unexploded ordnance from the Una River canyon at the Black Lake location in the municipality of Bosanska Krupa.

Within this third expert demining mission in 2016, 16 members of the Czech Republic police, five members of the FUCZ diving-pyrotechnic team, and the "Bihać A" UXO removal team were engaged, the FUCZ announced, reports the Patria agency.

A total of 706 items were found (and retrieved), of which 91 were explosive devices and 615 were rounds of ammunition. Two unexploded ordnance items (TTM M 609 and TTM G Spgr 30 mm) were destroyed at the location where they were found, and the remaining 704 were destroyed by the FUCZ "Bihać A" UXO removal team at the Grabež training ground in the municipality of Bihać.

In addition to unexploded ordnance from the Una River, a certain amount of weapons, license plates, and other items were retrieved from the Black Lake location and handed over to the Bosanska Krupa Police Station.

This is a continuation of activities that began in Bosnia and Herzegovina in 2011, and so far, the Sava River bed in the areas of Orašje, Odžak, and Brčko has been successfully cleared, where a large number of different unexploded ordnance items were found, while the retrieval and destruction of two aerial bombs near Brčko was particularly significant. 

This cooperation was established within the framework of the Memorandum of Understanding signed by the Ministry of Security of Bosnia and Herzegovina and the Ministry of the Interior of the Czech Republic. It is planned that in 2017, the Diving Team from the Czech Republic and members of the FUCZ will continue their cooperation and activities on training, reconnaissance, underwater retrieval, and destruction of explosive ordnance in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
