Crnadak at UN Ministerial Conference: BiH Actively Participates in Peacekeeping Missions

SARAJEVO, (Patria) - Minister of Foreign Affairs of Bosnia and Herzegovina Igor Crnadak participated yesterday at the United Nations Ministerial Conference "Unique Capabilities, Performance and Protection in United Nations Peacekeeping Operations" in New York.

The Conference, officially opened by UN Secretary-General António Guterres, discussed, among other things, the current operations of United Nations peacekeeping missions, the results of UN initiatives launched, such as the Action for Peacekeeping (A4P), and the participation of women in peacekeeping operations.

Minister Crnadak emphasized in his address that Bosnia and Herzegovina, as a member of the United Nations, is committed to maintaining peace, respecting the rule of law, and protecting human rights. He highlighted that BiH's engagement in the UN system is a visible and significant component, as Bosnia and Herzegovina actively participates in addressing international crises and UN peacekeeping missions.

He stated that since 2000, more than 140 officers and 325 police officers from BiH have participated in UN missions in East Timor, Haiti, Cyprus, Liberia, Sudan, South Sudan, Ethiopia and Eritrea, Congo, Iraq, Afghanistan, Mali, and the Central African Republic.

He also recalled that BiH supports the Action for Peacekeeping (A4P) and the Declaration of Shared Commitments on Peacekeeping Operations, as well as the implementation of the Women, Peace, and Security Agenda and its priorities, which ensure full, equal, and significant participation of women in all phases of the peace process. Regarding the promotion of gender policy in the context of peacekeeping operations, the minister emphasized that BiH has committed to increasing the number of uniformed women in peacekeeping operations.
