Čović's support for war criminal Valentin Ćorić jeopardizes peace and stability

(Patria) - The Institute for the Research of Genocide Canada (IGK) sent a letter to the Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Canada due to the shameful presence of the President of the HDZ of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Dragan Čović, at the book promotion of convicted war criminal Valentin Ćorić.

The letter states, among other things:

"We welcome the statement issued by the USA through the US Embassy in Sarajevo regarding the presence of HDZ President Dragan Čović at the book promotion of war criminal Valentin Ćorić, which was held in Mostar. We agree with the clear stance of the USA that 'Čović's public expression of support for a convicted war criminal is anathema to the European values he allegedly represents and claims to support. Public support and glorification of convicted war criminals certainly have no place in a 'European BiH for all'. Dragan Čović's proud participation in an event honoring a person responsible for so many terrible crimes is shameful".

At the meeting of the Ministers of Foreign Affairs of Bosnia and Herzegovina and Canada in Munich, attention was drawn to the jeopardizing of peace by political leaders who glorify war and war criminals.

Čović's support for war criminal Valentin Ćorić jeopardizes peace and stability and represents a denial of Canadian social values that are nurtured in the Canadian cultural mosaic.

Bearing the above in mind, we call on Canada to condemn Dragan Čović's participation in the event honoring convicted war criminal Valentin Ćorić, one of the members of the infamous "six of Herceg-Bosna" convicted by the Hague Tribunal for war crimes and crimes against humanity, and to publicly condemn the glorification of convicted war criminals.

Dragan Čović and all those present at the shameful book promotion of the war criminal have humiliated the victims of the joint criminal enterprise "Herceg-Bosna". At the same time, the prohibitions of the Hague Tribunal concerning the criminal Ćorić have been violated. This is a continuation of insulting victims, an attack on justice, law, and truth, and a threat to stability and peace.

We remind that aggressive criminal policies towards the state of Bosnia and Herzegovina are increasingly intensifying through the realization of war goals by other means," stated the IGK.
