Čović sets the pace for the troika: New work dynamics follow local elections

(Patria) - Chairman of the House of Peoples of the Parliamentary Assembly of Bosnia and Herzegovina and President of the Croatian Democratic Union of Bosnia and Herzegovina (HDZ BiH) Dragan Čović announced immediately after the local elections in October a new dynamic in the work of government institutions at all levels.

"You saw what happened with the Growth Plan. We gain nothing from constant quarrels. We simply must sit down at the table and, through the Coordination Mechanism, agree on everything that is disputed. We must engage in integration activities, and not only financially. Although, of course, it was very irresponsible of us to behave that way towards the obligations from the Growth Plan. There is more that we will have to initiate through institutions at all levels of government just a few days after the local elections," Čović stated for Fena.

He emphasizes that it is not realistic to expect any particularly strong political activity during August, except, he says, for regular tasks.

"We will have to establish a new dynamic of work for the executive and legislative authorities and start it just a few days after the elections, to catch up on things that have been left aside. Especially to draw the attention of European institutions to the good things in Bosnia and Herzegovina. Many new people will come into the European administration, and we will have to acquaint them with what we are doing because the image of us is quite negative. We will have to change it, and we cannot do that if we do not work differently, better. And I believe that the last three months of this year will be very intense when it comes to the legislative and executive authorities," says Čović.

According to him, one should not expect too much from any changes in the USA and the EU, including the upcoming arrival of new ambassadors, as well as the upcoming presidential elections in America.

"The administration of such complex systems does not change with the change of one person, no matter how important that person may be. That person may understand our environment here more or less, but nothing significant will change. We must cooperate with the current American ambassador and the head of the EU delegation, as well as with those who come after them. No major shifts should be expected there. We are the ones who must make a shift, understand that this is our society, our homeland, and that through our work we must shape it to suit every one of our citizens. And then we will have friends from abroad by our side," Čović concludes.
