Čović: Adopt the Election Law in the next two months

ORAŠJE, (Patria) - A meeting of delegations from two sister parties, HDZ BiH and HDZ Croatia, was held today in Orašje.

The delegations were led by the president of HDZ BiH Dragan Čović and Milijan Brkić, deputy president of HDZ Croatia and vice-president of the Croatian Parliament.

The meeting discussed the current political situation in BiH and cooperation between the two sister parties in the context of the General Elections in BiH.

- We are doing everything within HDZ BiH and the Croatian National Assembly (HNS) to ensure the flow of all positive ideas coming from Croatian parties, which we had in our strategy regarding foreign policy, so that BiH can obtain candidate status, activate the MAP, and with that faith we await the arrival of Juncker and Mogherini at the end of February, said Čović in a statement to the media after the meeting.

The primary task, as stated by Čović, is to adopt the Election Law in these two months, to relieve the reform processes, so that the election results can be implemented at all.

- HDZ BiH and the parties gathered around the HNS firmly advocate that the decision of the Constitutional Court must be implemented, which clearly refers to the election of members of the Presidency of BiH and the House of Peoples, in order to ensure legitimate representation of constituent peoples. That is our preoccupation and intensive talks are being held on this matter. By the end of the third month, we will have the basis of the strategy for the elections and an answer from all HNS members regarding our joint appearance - concluded Čović.

Milijan Brkić, deputy president of HDZ Croatia and vice-president of the Croatian Parliament, said that the sister party from Croatia will give maximum support to all activities of HDZ BiH, i.e., the Croatian National Assembly, and all parties gathered by the Croatian National Assembly.

- It must be ensured that Croats in BiH can elect their legal and legitimate representatives in the General Elections, and not have them elected by representatives of other peoples, said Brkić.
