Čović: We will not allow destabilization of BiH by hotheads

(Patria) - The President of HNS and HDZ BiH, Dragan Čović, stated today that the destabilization of the situation in BiH will not be allowed by "hotheads".

He assessed the latest crisis in the country as "an opportunity for the three peoples to agree on the future of the country and resolve mutual disputes".

- Those hotheads who would constantly want to create an atmosphere of mistrust and fear among our people throughout BiH, that will not be allowed - Čović said.

The latest crisis in the country arose after the first-instance conviction of the President of RS, Milorad Dodik, after which the authorities of RS adopted a series of laws that challenge the work of state institutions.

In the meantime, the Constitutional Court of BiH has annulled all these decisions, and a crisis is ongoing in the country with no indication of how it will end.

Čović says he appreciates the support of international authorities, but is convinced that the current crisis can only be resolved by domestic actors.

- Few of them have an interest in us. We must take responsibility for ourselves and ensure that our homeland, our space, is absolutely indivisible - Čović added.

According to him, this implies reaching an agreement on key disputes, "which includes the Euro-Atlantic path and the equality of the three constituent peoples".

- The crisis we are in is an opportunity for the peoples in BiH to finally agree on the future of the country and to remove the causes of dissatisfaction among all three peoples. This must guarantee the full constitutional equality of the Croatian, Bosniak, and Serb peoples - Čović added.

Asked about the post by US Senator Chuck Grassley on platform X, where he wrote that Croatian separatism is awakening in BiH, Čović said that "there is no move or statement by a Croatian official in BiH that could suggest this".
