Čović spoke on Twitter, Izetbegović before journalists: A solution is being sought from the two of us

SARAJEVO, (Patria) - President of SDA Bakir Izetbegović after the meeting at the residence of the US ambassador in Sarajevo with senior political advisor to the US Secretary of State Derek Chollet and President of HDZ BiH Dragan Čović emphasized that the interlocutors from the US expect local leaders to lead the processes. The meeting was also attended by Gabriel Escobar, Deputy Assistant Secretary of State, and US Ambassador Eric Nelson.

"I cannot say there is anything new, our American friends are with us, but they expect us to lead the processes and offer solutions," he stated.

As Izetbegović said, the impression is that a solution is expected from him and Čović.

"They are very insistent that Mr. Čović and I should offer solutions, so we are roughly in the same place as before, there are no advances," said the SDA president. He said no new meeting has been scheduled for tomorrow.

Dragan Čović did not address journalists after the meeting but spoke on Twitter.

"Discussion on key steps to strengthen stability and our EU and NATO path. Urgent amendments to the Election Law/limited changes to the BiH Constitution must respect the rights and equality of constituent peoples and non-discrimination," Čović stated.

Chollet arrived in Sarajevo today, and before Čović and Izetbegović, he met with the High Representative of the international community in BiH, Christian Schmidt.

The BiH Election Law has been a hot topic on the table for months, and although international mediators seek a solution from SDA and HDZ BiH, the opposition believes that amendments to the Election Law cannot be agreed upon solely by these two parties but by the wider political community.
