Čović with Schmidt on Amendments to the BiH Election Law

(Patria) - Deputy Speaker of the House of Peoples of the BiH Parliament (PSBiH) and HDZ leader Dragan Čović met today with the High Representative of the international community in BiH Christian Schmidt.

During the meeting, they discussed the current political situation in the country, with a special emphasis on the necessity of urgently implementing reforms that are key to the country's progress on its European path.

They also discussed other priority issues, such as the need for amendments to the BiH Election Law.

The interlocutors agreed that ensuring functional institutions, fostering dialogue, and preserving peace, stability, and the territorial integrity of the country are necessary for achieving Bosnia and Herzegovina's European perspective.

Čović particularly emphasized the need for amendments to the BiH Election Law, respecting the constitutional structure of BiH, implementing the Constitutional Court of BiH's ruling on legitimate political representation under case no. U-23/14, and the equality of all three constituent peoples as the foundation for making all political and institutional decisions.

He stressed that it is the shared responsibility of domestic and international actors to ensure BiH is a stable, functional, and European-oriented state.

The Office of the High Representative (OHR) also commented on the meeting on the X platform.

"A constructive conversation with the President of HDZ BiH Dragan Čović on resolving current political, legal, and constitutional challenges, as well as strengthening institutional stability and functionality, so that Bosnia and Herzegovina can move forward on its Euro-Atlantic path," the OHR stated in a post on X.
