Čović with Wigemark: Without changes to the Election Law, there are no legal and legitimate elections in October 2018.

Chairman of the Presidency of Bosnia and Herzegovina Dragan Čović met with the Head of the Delegation of the European Union to BiH and the EU Special Representative in BiH Lars-Gunnar Wigemark.

The meeting discussed BiH's progress on the Euro-Atlantic path, as well as changes to the Election Law.

Chairman of the Presidency of BiH Dragan Čović informed Wigemark that all responses to the European Commission's Questionnaire have been completed, and that they will be submitted to EU officials on February 28 this year. He also emphasized that it is extremely important for BiH to obtain candidate status as soon as possible, and that everything will be done to achieve this.

They also jointly commented on the European Union's Enlargement Strategy, and emphasized that it provides additional impetus for BiH on the European path.

Changes to the Election Law were also discussed, and Čović stressed that amendments to the Election Law must ensure legitimate representation of constituent peoples, in accordance with the ruling of the Constitutional Court of BiH, which clearly applies to the election of members of the Presidency of BiH and the House of Peoples of the Parliament of the Federation of BiH. Without these solutions, it will not be possible to organize legal and legitimate elections in October 2018, nor to implement the election results.
