Čović to foreigners: You took pictures and supported people you are now arresting

(Patria) - President of the Croatian Democratic Union Dragan Čović commented today on the arrest of the President of the Court of Bosnia and Herzegovina Ranko Debevec and former Director of the Intelligence-Security Agency (OSA) Osman Mehmedagić, as well as the latest warnings and announcements from the Office of the High Representative (OHR).

"I would say this is something not to comment on, it's something to cry about. It's not the first time that the top of the judiciary, the president of the Court, until yesterday the head of OSA, is arrested, and what message are we sending to all of us. What country do we live in. BiH is not a rule of law country and no one can be above that country, but it has been tolerated," Čović asked and added:

"My question is to all representatives of the international community who took pictures with these people in the last year or two and supported them in their work. But no one is above the law, from me onwards, everyone has to answer for what they did by breaking the law. Let it be investigated, let our institutions work, but we should be concerned. In the last 20 years, has any chief prosecutor finished their term?", he said.

Čović also spoke about the announcements by High Representative Christian Schmidt that, if the BiH Parliament does not do so, he will impose amendments to the Election Law.

"I am against the High Representative imposing any solutions. If we have a government, which we say is functioning, why would anyone make laws and legal solutions instead of us. That job is up to us," Čović stated.
