Čović reiterated HDZ positions: Declaration on Pelješac Bridge will not be adopted in the House of Peoples

Chairman of the BiH Presidency Dragan Čović held a press conference at Sarajevo International Airport before leaving for the United States of America, where he will have a series of meetings with numerous officials, during which he will present the current situation in BiH.

Čović spoke on several topics, announcing that in October the issue of amendments to the Election Law will be opened in the House of Representatives, and also emphasized that this time it will not be an urgent procedure, as it was in the House of Peoples.

- It will not go through an urgent procedure, but a regular one, in order to enable corrections to what bothers someone. It is important for us to respect the decision of the Constitutional Court of BiH and for the representatives of the peoples to be elected from that people, and for that to apply to everyone - stated Čović.

As he has said before, he reiterated today that at this moment there is no capacity for amending the BiH Constitution.

It would be too risky to open the issue of amending the Constitution, as it would be misused in the way it was done regarding the Pelješac Bridge or other issues that we will open", stated Čović, adding that the Pelješac Bridge is a political spectacle.

- The BiH Presidency does not have a unified stance. We have public statements where we try to outsmart each other, and in doing so, we only harm Bosnia and Herzegovina - said Čović.

He reiterated the previously stated positions of the HDZ that the Declaration on the Pelješac Bridge from the House of Representatives of the BiH Parliament will certainly not pass in the House of Peoples, and that a new Declaration will appear.

Čović reiterated that he expected BiH to gain candidate status in the EU by the end of the year, and that the prerequisite for this was the completion of the questionnaire.

- But the questionnaire has been extended by 5-6 months. We will see how many additional questions there will be, although we will react diplomatically there as well and try to soften the situation - said Čović, adding that the questionnaire is not finished and that because of this, many open questions remain.
