Čović: It is inconceivable for a party leader to ask the state to solve his private problem

The Chairman of the BiH Presidency and leader of the Croatian Democratic Union (HDZ) BiH, Dragan Čović, at a gathering with journalists today announced upcoming meetings with leaders of the Alliance for a Better Future (SBB) BiH Fahrudin Radončić and the Alliance of Independent Social Democrats (SNSD) Milorad Dodik, and emphasized that there will be many topics, including discussions in Mostar tomorrow and Saturday about the possibility of SNSD and SBB entering the government, reports the Patria News Agency.

Čović clearly expressed dissatisfaction with the work of the coalition so far, or strategic partners as he called them, because more concrete and better things could have been done in 10 months.

Čović will also have a meeting today with Bakir Izetbegović, the leader of SDA, and they will discuss the reconstruction of the FBiH Government, or the formation of a new coalition in FBiH, as well as the formation of government in the Herzegovina-Neretva Canton (HNK). Čović pointed out that with the entry of three small parties, BPS, A-SDA, and SBiH, into the government, we will have a minority government.

- It is a narrow majority, and the FBiH Government must work as it is doing now. I must point out that it is high time for DF to declare whether it is part of the government or not, because you also know that the Vice President of FBiH, Milan Dunović, will not sign the appointment of new ministers - Čović stated.

He emphasized that precisely because of this, he is conducting intensive talks with SBB, i.e., Fahrudin Radončić, but that he has a clear stance.

Also, Čović did not rule out the possibility of reconstructing the Council of Ministers.

- All topics will be on the table. I will also discuss the announced referendum with Dodik. The reasons for mentioning this referendum at all should be removed. Our good relationship can help us a lot. And I will say that BiH must not miss this autumn - Čović noted.

Commenting on the work of prosecutor's offices and the judiciary in BiH, Čović said that we are far from what we desire, which is an independent judiciary.

- As long as there is a possibility of politically motivated processes, we do not have an independent judiciary. It is inconceivable that now a party leader is asking for his private family case to be resolved, and we can also talk about other political assassinations, such as the still unresolved case of Jozo Leutar's murder... I do not want to delve into the selection of prosecutors, but I know that there are honest and honorable people there. No one pays attention to the fact that the report on the work of the BiH Prosecutor's Office has not been adopted for nine full years. I will tell you that the further politics is from the judiciary, the more BiH will be a legal state - Čović noted.

Although CIN journalists insisted that Čović answer their question about the property and apartment in Makarska registered to his wife, Čović said that "everything he has is stated in his property record".

- If you have documents that say otherwise, publish them. You can ask me whatever you want, but allow me to answer as I wish. I signed the property record and it is correct, and I will not go into the reasons why and at whose order you are asking me this - Čović stated.
