Dragan Čović, president of the HDZ and chairman of the House of Peoples of the Parliamentary Assembly of Bosnia and Herzegovina, has finally spoken out, stating that it would be best for BiH to close its borders in order to better protect its citizens from the coronavirus pandemic.
Earlier, after being tested, he said he was not positive, and according to Patria sources, he had been in contact with the first infected person from Mostar and, well, had the privilege of being tested. However, Čović, besides his proposals for fighting the coronavirus, took the opportunity to show his true colors again. He is already thinking about what comes next.
The goal is by no means to leave the Central Election Commission to others. Because power is power, and it is easiest to obtain when you have control over the CEC.
We remind you that the House of Representatives of the PSBiH voted to terminate the mandates of members of the Central Election Commission of BiH, Ahmet Šantić, Suad Arnautović, Branko Petrić, and Novak Božičković. Ahmet Šantić, Suad Arnautović, Vanja Bjelica, and Jovan Kalaba were appointed as new CEC members. At that time, the SNSD, the Serbian Bloc, and the HDZ left the session.
Regarding the problems that have arisen in the work of institutions at the BiH level, Čović said that the focus should now be on the coronavirus, adding that without a change in the decision regarding the election of members of the Central Election Commission of BiH, there will be no budget.
And how are we supposed to fight the coronavirus if there is no Budget?
While the police, officials, and all normal people are demanding the Budget for 2020, Čović is again imposing conditions. Now it is no longer the Election Law, because what would he need it for if he doesn't have control over the CEC. And so, after announcing a new blockade, speaking about EU aid to BiH in medical equipment, he said he believes it is not realistic to expect someone to do that when that someone is facing the same problems themselves, adding that he discussed the aid needed for the BiH economy with the head of the EU Delegation to BiH, Johann Sattler.
Čović is heading headlong toward his political end. The latest in a series of scandals linked to the president of the largest national party among Croats is the one concerning the decision of the Herzeg-Bosnia County, i.e., Canton 10, whose prime minister, Ivan Jozić, a member of the HDZ BiH, decided to ban BiH citizens from entering the territory of that canton. When they saw that this highly discriminatory decision would not go unpunished, they quickly withdrew it, but the document remains for the record.
I must support this morning's headlines that Čović's head will not be brought by "official Sarajevo," the international community, or some other foreign factor. His sovereign rule over the last 17 years will be undermined by his own people, and the first to act will be voters in the municipal elections in October this year, who will have the chance to punish Čović's catastrophic moves, dangerous precedents, and countless unprecedented scandals.
