Čović and HDZ: Masters of the Blame Game and Victimhood

(Patria) - HDZ BiH President Dragan Čović has once again complained that he and his party are perpetually blamed for everything wrong in Bosnia and Herzegovina (not that he's wrong), even for what happened in Strasbourg, in Brussels, and probably for global inflation. Although he was sarcastic, it is clear that there is truth in all of this, but attack has always been the best defense. So, Čović performed in that style, presenting himself as a victim.

Speaking after a session of the HDZ Presidency, Čović stated that he is against any imposition of decisions by the High Representative and said that BiH will become autonomous "as soon as he leaves." Because, obviously, BiH cannot be its own as long as there is someone to whom responsibility can be shifted, which, let's face it, is convenient whenever the status quo needs to be justified.

– Then we will lose the alibi for making decisions. Then we will sit down and negotiate – said Čović, as if they were just waiting for the High Representative to pack his bags so that an era of reforms and responsibility could begin.

He particularly referred to the BiH Election Law, which, according to him, HDZ is not seeking for itself, but, no less, for Bosnia and Herzegovina! Because if anyone knows what's best for BiH, it's those who constantly explain how BiH doesn't function.

– The Election Law should be applied by those who claim BiH, who are the most numerous people. They should prevent someone from being elected to the Presidency or the House of Peoples in the name of the Croat people – Čović stated.

Because, of course, when others interfere in "ours," it is an attack on the essence of democracy.
He continued by saying that for everything negative, including the Kovačević case before the European Court of Human Rights, they try to blame HDZ as if they are the ones controlling the European courts. Which, to be fair, would be a huge compliment if it weren't presented as an accusation. And of course, he didn't mention Croatia, which was precisely leading the "lobbying" process, and indeed donated 100,000 euros to the Court in Strasbourg.

– Allegedly, we have such strong influence that decisions are made based on us – he said.

He also touched upon the incidents in Pješčara, stating that "forces that have lost everything" are trying to provoke tensions on the ground. HDZ, of course, remains reserved, reasonable, and ready for dialogue as long as the dialogue does not concern issues on which they do not concede an inch of deviation!?

When it comes to the Growth Plan and European funds, Čović reminded us that it is not about losing a hundred million, but billions. And that, you guessed it, HDZ is again to blame, because allegedly someone is waiting to "remove one percent and give it to someone else".

– All those who have been convincing us for months that the coordination mechanism should be fully respected are now saying that it should be abandoned – he said, forgetting that the same mechanism has been used for years as a means of blockade when it was politically convenient.

When he talks about the government, Čović praises Borjana Krišto for "holding sessions at all" because, as he says, nothing can be done without Helez and Košarac. But, ironically, when there are no decisions, HDZ is again to blame. An eternal victim of a system that doesn't work, although it fundamentally never wants to change it.

– We will provide our representatives to the Central Election Commission, whatever we think of them, to ensure there are no abuses – he said. Because if something needs to be transparent, it is a system in which everyone knows who elects whom and for whom, but only as long as it does not concern "theirs".

In the end, with the message that elections must be fair and clean (feel free to laugh), Čović concludes that HDZ will put all its proposals to a vote as soon as they get an adequate majority. And until then, if nothing else, they can continue to be blamed. For everything. In the good old way.

And save Dodik, along with the Trojka, and then back to blockades. Everything is the same, the circle does not close with or without Schmidt, and possibly not even after the 2026 elections!
