Čović and Cormack Discuss Mostar and Census

Member of the BiH Presidency from the Croatian people Dragan Čović and U.S. Ambassador Maureen E. Cormack discussed the challenges on BiH's Euro-Atlantic path and modalities for overcoming them, as well as the general socio-political situation and processes in the country, announced the BiH Presidency, reports the Patria news agency.

 

It was assessed that the next major step towards BiH's Euro-Atlantic integration is the activation of the Membership Action Plan (MAP), which primarily implies progress in resolving the issue of non-perspective military property.

Ambassador Cormack expressed full support of the U.S. for these processes until the fulfillment of the set conditions, along with the need to expand cooperation in other fields, based on the Defense Review document, which will provide an overall picture of the level of compliance with NATO standards and ensure a basis for further continuation of BiH's accession process.

Čović informed the ambassador about activities related to harmonizing amendments to the Election Law. The need for an open and reasoned discussion on all proposals presented so far, which serve to implement the Constitutional Court's decision for Mostar, as well as solutions to the issue of electing members of the Presidency and delegates to the House of Peoples of the BiH Parliamentary Assembly, was emphasized.

It was assessed that the census was conducted according to the highest European standards and that there is no reason to further delay the publication of its results.

Among other things, opinions were exchanged on the issue of the sustainability of cultural institutions at the state level, and the need for legal regulation of this issue was emphasized, the statement reads.
