Čović: We agreed that the first negotiator with the EU will be from the Serb people, Trišić-Babić is acceptable to me

(Patria) - President of HDZ BiH Dragan Čović stated that he has been intensively negotiating with all representatives of parties and international institutions over the past month and a half, and that he sees no reason why the chief negotiator should not be appointed and both European laws, the Law on the HJPC and the Law on the Court of BiH, should not be adopted.

"If we had a little wisdom, just as we accepted the Growth Plan, which we unreasonably dragged out for seven, eight months, then this should also be finalized," he said in an interview with Zvonko Komšić on Jutro za sve on BHRT.

Speaking about the partnership with SNSD, Čović said that it is a political reality based on the election results from 2022.

"SNSD is our partner, that is our reality. It has its member of the Presidency, three representatives in the House of Peoples, and that is already a sufficient configuration to not be constitutionally eliminated," he said, adding that it is a constitutional category that must be respected.

He called on all colleagues to continue working on the European path.

When asked about the possible appointment of Ana Trišić-Babić as the chief negotiator of BiH with the EU, Čović said that this is a matter for the Serb side, but that any competent person they propose is acceptable to him.

"As far as I'm concerned, it's fine. It's up to the representatives of the Serb people. We agreed long ago that for the first time it would be a representative of the Serb people. Ms. Krišto recently finalized a decision that defines the basis for appointment in the Council of Ministers. It would be reasonable for colleagues from the Bosniak and Croat peoples to support this," he said.

Čović called on Minister Elmedin Konaković to represent the interests of BiH.

Čović confirmed that an agreement was reached that the seat of the Appellate Division of the Court of BiH will be in Istočno Sarajevo.
