Dragan Čović is trying by all means to expel the Democratic Front and Željko Komšić from the coalition at the federal level, writes the Patria news agency.
What has been an open secret for months, that he would gladly see the leader of the SBB, Fahrudin Radončić, as a partner in power at the Federation level instead of the "undesirable" Komšić, proved true yesterday.
He used the break between talks with the Deputy President of the SDA, Bakir Izetbegović, to run over to Radončić and offer him to step into the coalition instead of the DF.
Čović planned that Komšić would also yesterday, in a "fit of rage," announce that he was leaving everything, and then he would present Izetbegović with a fait accompli and tell journalists - we have a coalition and an agreement for the Government of the FBiH - SDA, HDZ, and SBB.
Izetbegović, who does not want Radončić by his side even in his dreams, would have no choice. Because, otherwise, he would be accused, as the first man of the winning party, of blocking the formation of the government, and that would not be a good reference for the upcoming Congress, where he needs to show himself as a leader ready for compromises for the good of the state.
In that combination, Čović would probably also give up the Ministry of Finance in favor of the SBB. It is now just a good excuse for him to drive away the DF. Otherwise, unofficial information says that Radončić would appoint Ramiz Džaferović, the former director of the Development Bank, to this position, and Čović would support that, because he "appreciates the work" of Džaferović and "what he has done for him."
They will not expel the DF from the state level because the pieces are already set with the Alliance for Changes, and the HDZ has received more than it earned in the elections, but Komšić bothers Čović in the Federation of BiH.
Whether Radončić agreed or not to enter into a deal with a politician who, in agreement with Milorad Dodik, advocates and tries in every possible way to create a third entity in BiH, i.e., "federal ethnically mono-national units," without encroaching on the territory of the Republika Srpska.
Zlatko Lagumdžija, the former president of the SDP, also has his fingers in all this, and he was reconciled with Čović precisely by Radončić. The plan for a Federal Government without the DF was hatched right after the elections, and in such a political constellation, some chair would also be found for Lagumdžija.
From the very beginning, the DF was sought to be disqualified, subtly, but in the last two days, an open offensive has been launched. Komšić has yielded on everything, but now he is firmly stuck on the same ministry as Čović.
Will Komšić give in and be a "patriot" as Izetbegović told him, or will we get a federal government without the DF, but with the SBB? No one can certainly predict that. We remain waiting for an answer until Friday. We will get some government.
