Members of the Presidency laid flowers on the occasion of March 1st

SARAJevo, (Patria) - Members of the Presidency of Bosnia and Herzegovina Željko Komšić and Šefik Džaferović laid flowers at the Kovači Martyrs' Cemetery in Sarajevo on the occasion of March 1st, Bosnia and Herzegovina's Independence Day. Flowers were also laid by representatives of all levels of government, associations, and citizens.

Komšić said that this is an opportunity "to remember our comrades who died for this country", as well as those who lost their health or body parts for Bosnia and Herzegovina. 

"Let us not be troubled, let us not regret what we did," said Komšić. He added that one can be disappointed in politics and government, but one cannot be disappointed in their homeland.

Member of the Presidency of BiH Šefik Džaferović sent a message that the citizens of Bosnia and Herzegovina voted, "and the best sons gave their lives for a whole, democratic state of Bosnia and Herzegovina."

"A state of equal peoples and citizens throughout its territory. BiH is still not, in the full sense, a state of equal people. There are numerous examples of discrimination, but I have no doubt that we will finally achieve our goal - a whole and democratic BiH, a state in which all peoples and citizens will be equal, on every inch of its territory," Džaferović said.

He expressed his belief that BiH will become a member of the European Union and NATO.

Bosnia and Herzegovina Independence Day is a national holiday celebrated on March 1st every year, commemorating BiH's independence. Adult citizens of the then SRBiH voted on the independence of Bosnia and Herzegovina from Yugoslavia in a referendum held on February 29th and March 1st, 1992.
