
(Patria) - Prime Minister of Una-Sana Canton Nijaz Hušić, who is also the commander of the Canton's Civil Protection Headquarters by function, convened a session of the Cantonal Civil Protection Headquarters where the Information on the situation in the area of this canton was discussed and activities were agreed upon and the coordination system for providing assistance to the population of flooded areas in Bosnia and Herzegovina was specified.
This canton, yesterday, urgently began organizing in case of the need to send mechanization and personnel to assist in the aftermath of catastrophic floods affecting the affected areas.
Prime Minister Hušić made himself available to his colleagues from the Central Bosnia and Herzegovina-Neretva cantons and offered the assistance of the Una-Sana Canton to the citizens of the flooded areas.
- We have been in communication with the competent institutions of the Central Bosnia and Herzegovina-Neretva cantons since yesterday, and what we have done as the Una-Sana Canton and the Cantonal Civil Protection Administration is at a high level of coordination together with the people who are currently in that area. We acted interventionally, and representatives of the Red Cross, which is an integral part of the Civil Protection, have gone to those areas - stated Hušić.
Binding conclusions for all municipalities and cities of the canton were adopted at the session, and all human and material-technical potentials were placed at the disposal of the Federal Civil Protection Administration and the people affected by the disaster.
- We discussed that no individual actions should be carried out in the area where the disaster occurred because it is a sensitive area, there are missing persons, and one cannot move around that area as one pleases and do as one pleases. Any form of assistance will be organized through our cantonal Red Cross, and the Federation of BiH will say if they need anything from our canton, and we will comply with that - said Prime Minister Hušić.
Based on the Decision on declaring a state of natural disaster caused by floods and landslides in the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina by the FBiH Government, the Cantonal Civil Protection Headquarters has tasked the Cantonal Civil Protection Administration, civil protection services, and civil protection headquarters of cities and municipalities in the Una-Sana Canton to monitor and assess the situation on the ground and, accordingly, take measures and activities within their jurisdiction, prescribed by the Law on Protection and Rescue of People and Property from Natural and Other Disasters.
- We need to be vigilant because we do not know what the rainfall and water levels will be in the coming days. We have made conclusions regarding the situation in the canton and have tasked the municipal civil protection headquarters to organize 24-hour duty and to continuously inform us about the situation in the canton. - Dževad Livaković, Director of the Cantonal Administration of the Una-Sana Canton Civil Protection.
The Government of USK will, in agreement with the Cantonal Civil Protection Administration, make a decision on allocating funds to help the affected areas on Monday.
The Red Cross of the Una-Sana Canton is tasked with coordinating with the municipal/city Red Cross organizations in the Una-Sana Canton and organizing the collection and delivery of humanitarian aid to the endangered population in the municipalities of the Central Bosnia and Herzegovina-Neretva cantons.
