Civil Protection Warns: Check Chimneys and Heating Installations

Bearing in mind that the heating season has begun, the Civil Protection Staff of the Municipality of Centar Sarajevo warns citizens to check chimneys and heating devices powered by gas, electricity, and solid fuels, reports the Patria news agency.

 

It is known that a large number of citizens use heating devices and standard and improvised chimneys, without paying attention to their regular servicing and maintenance, which poses a risk of explosions and fires with unforeseeable consequences.

Such accidents most often occur in cases of using a common chimney for gas, electric, and solid fuel heating devices.

The Civil Protection Staff reminds citizens that before putting them into operation, it is necessary to prepare and check the functionality of the devices and the passability of the flue and steam exhaust installations, and to clean the chimneys to prevent fires and carbon monoxide poisoning, with a special note that it is strictly forbidden to connect gas and exhaust gases from the combustion of solid heating materials in the same chimney.

-We call on citizens to take all precautionary measures to prevent fires and threats to human lives and material goods, and in the event of a fire, it is necessary to immediately start extinguishing it with available means and notify the firefighters as soon as possible at phone number 123, the Information Center at 121, and the police at 122, emphasized the Civil Protection of the Municipality of Centar.
