Civil Protection of Sarajevo Canton issues warning due to heavy rainfall

(Patria) - The Civil Protection of Sarajevo Canton has issued a warning due to possible floods and called on municipal civil protection services in the Sarajevo Canton area to be on standby.

Given that, according to the Notification on the forecast of extraordinary hydrological conditions of September 21, by the Agency for the Sava River Water Area, in the period from September 23 to 25, due to significant rainfall, a rise in water levels is forecast across the entire Sava River water area in the Federation of BiH, and that there are dangers of flash floods, among others in the Bosna River basin, and that extraordinary hydrological conditions are forecast in the coming days, especially in the area of the upper and middle part of the Bosna River basin, we recommend that all legal and natural persons, preventively for the protection of human health and life, as well as material and cultural assets, immediately, in accordance with their competencies and obligations prescribed by the Law on Protection and Rescue of People and Material Assets from Natural and Other Disasters, take the necessary preventive flood protection measures, as this will create preconditions for more efficient and faster response of all subjects of the protection and rescue system in a comprehensive response to potential challenges and threats from floods, and thus avoid major material damage, as well as possible injuries and human casualties.

We especially appeal to the municipal civil protection services in the Sarajevo Canton area to continuously tour the areas most at risk of floods and to immediately put their organized protection and rescue forces on standby, so that they are ready as first response forces to react, in accordance with their competencies and obligations under the protection and rescue plans, to potentially possible heavy rainfall in the area of their municipalities.

The Civil Protection of Sarajevo Canton notes that the aforementioned entities are obliged, as soon as they notice or learn of any danger or occurrence that could lead to a natural or other disaster, to submit all data on it to the Cantonal Operational Center of Civil Protection at telephone number 121, which operates continuously 24 hours a day every day.
