A Clean Fight for a Clean Victory and a New Era

It can be said that the SDP has a historic chance to pull Bosnia and Herzegovina out of the tragic embrace of nationalism. By serving themselves and their promoters, it has been shown that nationalism destroys entire nations.

SDP's candidate for the Presidency in the October elections, Denis Bećirović, has so far received broad support, from the Bosniak Movement through the Serb Civic Council and Croatian intellectuals to the Roma association. His victory is entirely likely at this moment. National parties have broken down every sense of togetherness into its simplest components, so Bećirović's messages act as a wake-up call of new hope.

What the SDA criticized Bećirović for, voters have recognized as a virtue. Among other things, he said that after being elected to the BiH Presidency, he would resign from all party functions. In this way, he would prevent any potentially negative influence of some SDP members on the Presidency.

"I will not only be a candidate of the SDP but also of other political parties and citizens," Bećirović said.

What diagnosis of BiH society does this broad support for the SDP candidate offer? The citizens of Bosnia and Herzegovina are tired of fear and divisions. They are tired of protecting national interests on their backs. The constant guardians of national interests in BiH always calculate without those who ultimately pay dearly. The "90s" candidate for the BiH Presidency, Diana Zelenika, explained this approximately as follows: "Those who are loudest in protecting national interests have destroyed our families and homes."

It can be said that the left has a historic chance to pull Bosnia and Herzegovina out of the embrace of nationalism. However, the left can also miss this opportunity. By serving only themselves and their chosen members, they can destroy a promising idea, an idea of hope, justice, peace, and a better tomorrow.

For starters, DF leader Željko Komšić must curb various "miletićes" and stop all poisonous arrows towards the SDP. Any potential crime within the SDP will not be resolved by any salon statements from the DF and GS. The tug-of-war for voters between two left-wing parties can only lead to a breakdown on both ends. No one is like their own to anyone. If the left does not go united into the elections, then for starters, it can at least devise a common platform that would entail the absence of any mutual discreditation.

Political sabotage has always been the most primitive means in the fight for power. It too closely resembles the campaigns of nationalist parties. Therefore, the left must engage in a clean fight, for a clean victory and a new era.
